Sketching at the zoo

I spent some hours this past Saturday at the Racine Zoo drawing sketches of the animals. I enjoyed using watercolors to sketch, even though the final products are rough. My friend Mandy who works at the zoo took me backstage so I could sketch some of the reptiles that are currently not on display. I was surprised by how an alligator’s scales interact with each other; instead of the smooth transition like that found on a snake, an alligator’s scales are linked in a large blocks that bend at angles to each other. Did that make any sense? Probably not, but this is why I am an artist…because I can explain thins in pictures, and not words.>.<

  1. Cute! I can’t decide if I like the rhino or giraffe is my favorite
